Bio/Description

My research involves a "lithium vapor box" to test a detached divertor concept. In this divertor design, a chamber with walls coated with liquid lithium at several hundred Celsius creates a dense lithium vapor on which the plasma radiates, recombines, and cools. Additional chambers with cooler liquid lithium walls condense the vapor that escapes from the first chamber to prevent it from reaching the main plasma. Currently we're in the concept testing stage of the design so my work ranges from doing analytical calculations of heating and cooling to using simulations to model the lithium flow within the box.
